Today, more students are travelling overseas to pursue higher education than ever, and two of the most populous destinations are the United States and the United Kingdom.

If you're considering studying in one of these countries, know first that each offers a distinct higher education experience.

According to the Times Higher Education university ranking, more than half of the world's top 200 universities are located in either the US or the UK.

Both countries share a rich tradition of quality higher education, excellent research facilities, a culture that promotes intellectualism and the pursuit of academic freedom. However, while both certainly provide an excellent environment for learning, there are many differences between the two countries in terms of the structure of the university and student life.

If you are caught between studying in the UK or USA, this video is a side by side comparison that would hopefully help you make a decision.

As an international student, I prefer to study abroad in the UK since the tuition fees are a lot cheaper and the teaching/studying style seems unique to me and I find it comfortable to study with their simple-based teaching techniques.

Also prefer the UK. The UK university system is more rigorous, it is more independent and the academic level does appear to be notably higher than in US institutions. While the UK higher education system has inspired many nations (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, India….), the US system has not. For good reasons, since the US system is much less “specialised” and through their “liberal arts” approach valuable time is lost. The UK trains you to be a subject expert, the US trains you to know a little bit of everything. I go for UK anytime !!! Now for the PhD level UK and US offer similar quality.
